Learn about their tasks as, as well as the multi-cultural mixes and influences. Meet our staff today and hear how the current “servants” of the Whalehead Club keep this marvelous museum running. This tour begins on the front porch of the Whalehead Club and takes the visitor through servant areas such as the kitchen and living quarters. WWII Coast Guard Mounted Patrol Exhibit
Posted Wednesday July 13, 2011 12:28 pm
Come see the new WWII Coast Guard Mounted Patrol Exhibit - paying hommage to those brave Americans who patrolled the shores in Corolla, eyes open and on the lookout for German U-Boats. The Whalehead Club played an important role during this time. The property served as a recruitment station where Coast Guardsmen awaited assignment for basic training, but also as housing for the Mounted Patrol. The northern Outer Banks shoreline was an area that could have easily given advantage to the Germans during WWII. With large sand dunes and a small population of local residents, there was legitimate fear that the area could give access to their troops, and potentially weaken our nations defenses. See original photos and stories in our brand new exhibit. What a great way to share some of our Nation's history with your kids and grandkids!
