- How many hours are reserved for a wedding ceremony?
- Four hours are reserved per ceremony per lawn. No hours are reserved beyond dusk.
- How many hours are reserved for a wedding reception?
- The entire day from sunrise to dusk is reserved in the lawn area of your choice.
- When is dusk?
- Dusk is approximately 45 minutes after sunset which varies monthly with the longest days in June and July.
- Why do wedding events end with wedding parties vacating the park by dusk?
- There is not adequate lighting after dusk to ensure the safety of guests in the park.
- Does Whalehead Club or Currituck Heritage Park provide rental equipment?
- Rental Equipment is not provided or included in the lawn reservation fees.
- Does Whalehead Club or Currituck Heritage Park provide catering services?
- Catering services are not offered in a reservation fee; however, a list of approved caterers is available.
- Is electricity available on site?
- Yes, power is available on both the North and South-east Lawns and is included in the reservation fee.
- Is the inside of the Whalehead Club available for any wedding events or photo opportunities?
- The interior of the historic Whalehead Club is not available for social events. All weddings including photo opportunities take place outdoors on the spacious grounds.
- What if it rains on my wedding day or at my reception?
- Even with a threat of inclement weather most wedding events take place as scheduled. However, if a wedding ceremony or reception must be cancelled due to weather, either a partial refund is given or the event can be rescheduled at no additional reservation fee.
- Why do brides and grooms have to carry Special Event Liability Insurance for wedding receptions?
- Special Event Liability Insurance is required by The Whalehead Preservation Trust for wedding receptions where alcoholic beverages are being served. This insurance protects brides and grooms in the event guests are injured or damage to the property is incurred as a result of alcohol consumption.
- Are there public restrooms available for wedding parties to use?
- Yes, the public restrooms are available during special events and wedding receptions.
- Where do guests park for wedding events in Currituck Heritage Park?
- Designated parking areas are located on the North and East sides of the park. All guests are required to park in designated areas. Golf carts can be rented to transport guests to and from the parking and restroom areas.
- Are bands allowed in Currituck Heritage Park?
- Yes.
- Are pets allowed in Currituck Heritage Park?
- Pets on a leash are permitted in the park.
- Are rehearsals allowed the day before my wedding event?
- Rehearsals are permitted the day before a wedding event only if the lawn is not reserved for another event. There is no charge to use an available lawn for a rehearsal.

- Are mosquitoes a problem at Currituck Heritage Park?
- Mosquitoes are sometimes noticeable when there is no air movement. A bride and groom options to ward off mosquitoes. They can use Citronella or pay for professional pest control prior to their event.
- Are there any restrictions on decorating?
- There are no restrictions on decorating the lawn areas; however, the breeze off the water should be considered when planning elaborate decorations. Delicate flowers, ribbons, lace, candles, vases and other fragile materials can be blown away. When decorating the historic bridge, nails and staples are not permitted; however, plastic ties, rope or tull can be used.
- Can I have my wedding event at the lighthouse?
- The staff of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse makes arrangements for weddings that take place on their property. Contact them at 252-453-8152.
- What hotels or lodging are available in the area for my guests?
- Many brides and grooms and their guests rent large homes for lodging. A list of vacation rental companies can be found on the Outer Banks Wedding Association website at www.outerbanksweddingassoc.org. In addition, there are 3 hotels/inns in the North Beach area. (1.) - Can I use fireworks at my wedding or in the park?
- Currituck County prohibits the use of fireworks in county owned areas including sparklers.
